Releasing them would really be cruel - both to them and to any other turtles they come into contact with. Maybe we can help you find a rescue organization. Where do you live?

Releasing them in the wild is a horrible idea, they will die, if released. Simply because they are captive animals who have NO idea how to survive without you.

i liv in NJ and trust me, no one wants my turtles which is horribly sad especially considering the fact that they are among the most awesome things that hav ever lived! the main issues are that:
1) they're running out of space in their tank and i can't afford/ clean a tank bigger than 40gal
2) after i go to college in a year or so theres no one other than my parents to take care of them (i love my parents, really i do but i highly doubt their ability to care for my turtles seeing as my mother is too terrified to even touch them)

contact the aspca and tell them you need to have turtles picked up because you can no longer care for them. the aspca will be able to take care of them, and you don't have to threaten any ecosystems by releasing them.

For the love of them, please do not release them into the wild, because like i said (two posts ago) they have been captive animals their whole lives. They have heavily counted on you to meet all of their needs, in the wild you will not be there. There wont be any turtle pellets floating around or water heater to keep them nice and toasty during the long winter months. You're turtles will simply, die...because they will be put into a new world, of which they have never seen. Releasing them would be, cruel and not very responsible of you.

You have tons of choices. ASPCA, Turtlehomes, Local Reptile Shelters, the list goes on and on. Keep on trying, if you just give up. Then we wont get anywhere.

Hey HwTi3, if you haven't yet, take a look at that site Xsavings... suggested. It's a master list of turtle rescue orgs - even including one called "turtle rescue of New Jersey". Why don't you check with some of those sites? Fortunately you've got time to work something out.

my parents hav more or less decided that they'll be very sad if the turtles r gone so i think they're staying at my house for a while, at least as long as my parents luv em lol

Oh what wonderful news! Are they familiar with the forum? Lots of the people on here are adults. A lot of them have "inherited" their turtles from their kids when the kids went off to college - just like in your case.

I hope you'll encourage them to read up on RES before they take over the care of them. Best to know how to avoid a problem than have one happen then try to deal with it.

HwTi3- Maybe you could think about an outdoor setup? Like a rubbermaid container (lots cheaper than a tank set-up) and cover it..etc... there are tons of articles about outdoor setups on this forum! PLEASE take a look at least...

It is GREAT that your parents want them!!! YEAH~ Send them here! We can "edumacate" them! :D

Where R U from? There are outdoor set ups everywhere. And they are covered so the other "animals" cannot get to them. Anyhow, just an idea that might make it easier...

Like I posted before...since U love your babies so much; hopefully that love will flow over onto your parents! :) Turtles ARE alot of work and money BUT they are so worth it! Since they are keeping them for now...please send em onto the site!

Without this site...lots of people would have gotten rid of their turts or some may have died without all the helpful and knowledgeable information and people here! Goooood Luck!!!! *smooches* to da babies!
