yes, well i trust the source, but its in spanish, here you go anyway. http://www.diagnosticoveterinario.com/c ... &idsubs=12

it says it was probably put when the turtle was a baby..And even still she led eggs after she had proper care, she adapted to her deformity...

It's too painful to look at. I won't look at that screen again.

Holy cow that is disgusting! Was it a wild turtle that got wedged in the metal ring by accident (trash laying around) or was that done to her intentionally?

Last year there was news of a RES (I think) that had a similar deformity. The plastic ring from a soda can was the culprit. There should a be a link to a video somewhere, and I believe the rescuers named her "Peanut".

Ugh. Those plastic six-pack holders have caused so many cruel and painful slow deaths for a lot of wild animals because of the fact that once an animal gets one stuck around it, it slowly constricts them as they continue to grow. And, being made of plastic, it never breaks down. Most major grocery stores don't sell cans that way anymore, thank goodness. But I've seen soda bottle six-packs being packaged that way now.

all of that disgusts me.

Six-pacs of beer with those plastic six-ring carriers are sold around here. I keep picking them up off the side of the road so they won't be washed into the brook and eventually into the pond near the house, where painteds live.

sorry, couldn't resist...

This sounds like a great idea, this way they can see how it feels. I can't believe that anyone would do something like that. I also found a horrible video on myspace where some one put a baby turtle into a glass of ice. I want to report it but have no clue how. I contacted a news station and also sent emails to myspace. Why would people be so f***ed up. :x

If you want to see the video here is a link there are two or three horrible ones from this same person. A child only 14.

That picture of the turtle with the ring just made me sick. I always cut up those little plastic rings, we get them on soda cans and bottoles and even juice bottles. I make sure that every ring on it is cut open so that nothing like that ever happens. :(

yes, you are right, they are like fingernail and IT DOES NOT hurt them to have horse shoes unless they are not put on properly...

It's sad that we live in a world where kids like those ones in the myspace post by alexis exist. Where the hell are their parents? Kids like that disgust me and really make me wonder what is wrong with people these days. I just don't think kids and pets mix. Not when their parents are obviously neglectful morons.

I just don't see why it's so hard to understand a simple principle like treating things the way you would like to be treated. If you can't take care of the turtle or don't want to, don't buy it. If you can't raise kids right get your damn tubes tied.

Here here!!! I agree with "meg.."
I don't see how people can be like "oh, well it is just an animal you can buy another one". They have feeling and they deserve to be treated well and taken care of. If you can't accept that then don't get the animal. :x

I didn't watch the video because it would make me too angry. Sadly though, kids (especially boys) have been doing this forever. I remember when I was little, some of the other kids in the neighborhood bragged about catching frogs and sticking firecrackers in their mouths. That kind of stuff always bothered me. I used to love catching frogs, snakes, turtles, and fish, but I never hurt them (not intentionally anyway). I've always been an animal lover. But I've heard other guys talk about some really disgusting things they used to do to animals as kids. It's really sick how cruel humans can be sometimes. I mean, just look what they do to their fellow humans sometimes. Grown ups can be much worse than kids when it comes to torturing other humans. :(
