There's so much I love about my turtles, and they all have such different personalities. Good question, Safdar! I love just watching them be turtles, with their different personalities shining through in whatever they're doing.
With Rigby, I love her dignified manner, from basking with her head held high and legs all stretched out, to swimming and watching the fish frolick through the water with an air of disdain. It all changes, however, when she sees me coming with food in my hand. She doesn't get all hyper like the babies, but she will swim eagerly over to me, and her expression, if you will, changes to excitment, and there's no dignified air when she's gobbling her food up like a pig! As soon as the food is gone though, back she goes to swimming, confident that she is ruler of the pond. And when I start laughing about that, she'll give me a look of, "Me? Excited about food? No...you must be mistaken. You don't have any more peaches though, by chance?"
I love Apolo's energy. I swear his shell is the only thing keeping his energy from bursting forth in every direction possible! The only time I see him keeping still is when he and Wedge are basking together, and that's mainly because Wedge rests ontop of Apolo, preventing him from moving. He would be the wild-haired, punk-rock listening personality of the two babies. He is very brash, and curious as heck about everything and anything. Caution is defnitely not a word in his vocabulary.
And Wedge, I love his wide-eyed view of the world. He reminds me of a nervous schoolboy who's afraid to break the rules. Of the two babies, he'd be the nerd with tape-patched glasses. He has that curious but nervous/wary way of going about things, and the only reason he's the one sitting ontop of Apolo while basking is because he can then be the first one back into the water at the slightest sign of "danger". He likes to hang out by himself under their "cave", but if Apolo is gone from his sight too long he always swims out to find him.
Ugh, I really could get into a whole dissertation about why I love my turtles and their different personalities, but I know there are other things I should be doing other than delving into my love for turtles. I love hearing about why everyone else loves their turtles!
