what would be a good thing to use at the bottom of my turtle tank i am using glass rocks for now but please tell me if they are harmful or anything thanks

in my tank i have
1 irodesent shark 5 rosie reds 1 dragon fish (violet goby) and 1 black mystery snail!!! so are they ok with my turtle my dragon fish just stays at the bottom of the tank all the time so i don't think that is harmful but please help thanks!!

I would remove the glass rocks...they have the potential of breaking into smaller pieces and your turtle eating them. Best thing to use on the bottom of the tank are large river rocks. These can be found at pets stores, home improvement stores and some craft stores. Smaller rocks can also be eaten and can become impacted in your turtle.

i use playground sand from home depot. $2 for a 10 lbs bag.

Just remember anything you put in your tank.. such as all those fish have the potential to be eaten. Your turtle may get along with them fine for now, but as he/she grows they may become food.

As for the bottom of the tank, use either the river rocks as missibu said or nothing at all. You really need to make sure whatever you use is larger than the turtles head.

i use sand, its not as hard as some ppl might think it is, and once it has settled it doesn't float around and mess with the filter.. basically it takes a week or two to settle down and become "heavy"... after that all the dirt, poop and food falls on the surface of the sand so all u need to do is siphon the surface, much easier than digging through the pebbles/gravel imo...

One thing I've seen is using pictures of rocks taped under the glass. It looked good, but without the hassle. I'll probably do that when I get a bigger tank and just leave a few rocks in there so he has something to push around.

You can use aquarium backgrounds under the tank. Some are just picture of rocks. I use a combination of some river rocks (for pushing around) and contact paper that has a leaf design on it under the tank.
