"Illegal or Not?''
This whole story is based on a true story that happened to me this summer when i traveled to florida.

It was summer, my family and I were at Orlando,Florida. We stayed in a Disney Resort and visited each Theme park everyday. By the end of our week, we visited Daytonya Beach. In the afternoon i saw a vendor with a huge tank with dozens of little baby turtles, some shells, and a filter. My mom let me by one, they were only 10 bucks and 15 dollers for the tank and food. The turtle was also, under 4 inches. But the tank that she sold me was a size of a Betta Fish tank. The vendor told me that i can take it on the plane. She also told me that, the turtle can go without water for 1 month and it can go without eating for 1 week. I didn't know anything about turtles,so i listened. In the tank their were blue colored rocks and a small rock in the middle with water. In my Disney hotel room, it syayed overnight. By the next morning, the water was ice cold. I let the water heat off and it liked it.

It was time. We headed to airport worried if they would let the turtle onboard with us. We asked the manager that was near the front desk she replied a straight forward NO.I was very sad,but my dad passed on the turtle to a shoe shiner in the airport.By the time we headed to the securuity,we asked a woman and she replied that we could hold the turtle in our hands or hide it past the metal detector. So my dad rushed to get the turtle back from the man. My dad succesfully passed the turtle.

During the airplane trip,i feel asleep. When i woke up all the rocks in the cage were tilted to the right and the turtle was missing.I was very shocked to see that the turtle was in its shell,i thought it was dead.A couple minutes after i check that it poked its heads out so i was relieved.By the time i got home,i immediatly researched about my turtle, found out it was a Red Ear Slider. Also, i found out LOADS of information about the turtle. But, i was devestated that the vendor told me all lies. The tank she told me it could live in was about 7 inches long. But now my turtle "Smallz" now lives in a nice tank, with a filter,a heater, basking area and light, and a home. :)[/i]

It's crazy the things some vendors will say to sell a turtle. My cousin bought 2 turtles and was told they should stay in a completely land enviornment for a year, and then be moved into a tank! Sadly, they died before they could have a proper enviornment. I'm so glad you found this site!

It's so good of you to see that your little guy/gal has a good home. Where is your home, by the way?

Sounds like he's found a wonderful home. I wouldn't try a repeat of sneaking the turtle on a plane though. All kinds of things could have happened with a risk like that!

As for the vendors who sell them. I honestly believe that some of the information that they give out, they believe is legit. Some I believe is said so that they can make a buck, but I'm not sure that they realize the extent of proper care. To them they are disposable pets.
