Is there any way to know for sure? I thought it was female b/c the claws are not very long and they are pretty much all the same size, it doesn't have the middle ones very long compared to the outside claws. BUT since I have seen that "black bag" come out more than once,i know some have said and i have also read that it could be a penile prolapse... I have read that females who can't lay their eggs may have a prolapse?? anyone have info on females laying eggs?? Do they need to have a nest set up as I've read? how do I set up a dry nest area for my turt if it lives in a tank?? how can I tell if this is the problem?? i read some info on females retaining their eggs and geting sick...etc. and I don't want my turt to suffer if this is the case....Anyone have any idea about this?

How big is your turtle? You can only tell gender if they are over 4" shell length. If you have a picture, maybe someone here can help you.

Note: turtles can have intestinal prolapse usually associated with constipation. If it persists (and he is not a "he"), you might want to have the turtle checked out.
My babies: Tanner (RES), MR. Prissy & Ringo (budgies), Shinju (cockatiel)

Does your turt do this after he eats? Or is it random? Does it go right back in or does it stay out?
Here's some info from another site:

Don't get scared, my Bozo does it from time to time, but if it is chronic, or is happining every time she eats, you may have to go to the vet.....
