Hi All,

I have used the resources on this site many times since getting my RES 6 months ago. My husband purchased my baby RES (Willie) from a flea market .... I call it a rescue. He said when he walked by there were 20-30 small turtles in a small tank walking on top of each other and he just couldn't help but to get me one. I have always thought turtles were cute so I was excited. He was going out of state to work for a few months and thought this would be perfect to occupy my time :)

When we got Willie he was about an inch and now he is around 4.5 inches (its been a few weeks since I measured him). He is pretty darn cute and has a distinct personality.

Well enough about me ... here are a few of Wilie's pictures (a baby picture and a recent one).

Thanks,

Stacy

If he's 4.5 inches, my guess is that he is actually a she! Extremely cute!!

Do you think Willie is really a girl? How can you tell? I thought they had to be older to tell?

Generally 4 inches is the rule of thumb being able to tell gender. Males will have longer thicker tails and long front nails. Females shorter tales and short front nails.

Your turtle is soooo cute! Missibsu is right if that last pic is of your turtle at 4.5 inches the nails are very short... you should browse and see the pics of male turtles nails- they're sooooo long! I can't wait til I know what sex Leo is- it'll be awhile for that though! For now- it's just Leo! haha

I saw pictures of their toenails before they just never had the size with the picture so I assumed that it was with they were much larger. Thanks again :)

Welcome Stacy and Willie. Guess you'll have to tell everyone her name is short for something like Wilhelmina!
