Urgent Care :: I think Willy is sick

To tell you the truth, the vet only really looked at him for about 5-10 secs. She babbled on about how hes so small and hard to diagnose, and how hatchlings are so fragile. She also said something about this is the time that they like to hibernate, so I was wondering about that. The vet really wasn't much of a help besides giving the medicine. Is there anything I should look for?

And his skin looks kinda whitish, I think it's because he is shedding. Is that what it is supposed to look like when he is shedding?

If it is clear and transuculent(?sp dont know if that is the word) then I am pretty sure it is ok.

Shedding looks like he walked through a piece of toilet paper and has pieces of it floating off of him.

So I think Willy is doing better, I haven't had much time to observe him too much though. The vet said something about bringing him back for a check up. Would that be necessary?

And also, I have been putting some romaine lettuce in with him, and he has been eating it, so I think that is a good sign!

That's a very good sign (that he is eating the lettuce!).

Keep an eye on him over the next week & see how things go. If there are any changes (stops eating, looks lethargic) I would definitely take him back to the vet.

FYI: turtles can't properly hibernate in captivity. Some may slow down a bit (eat less, sleep a little more), but hopefully over time that "wanting to hibernate" should go away with lots of UVA/UVB light.
