I'm going away and I'm having trouble finding someone to take care of Myrtle while I'm away. I can feed her both days because its just for the week end but I was wondering does it matter if I leave her light on overnight? Just for one night does it matter if its on?

you can buy a timer from home depot fairly cheap set time to go on in morn go off at night

Yes by all means get a timer. They are very handy. I think mine cost around $5 at Lowes.

The lights will keep Myrtle up. As mentioned, get a timer for your UVB and basking lights. I got 2 for $5 at IKEA.

I have my lights on a timer for which I got severely ripped off! $25 bucks for a Zilla at PetsSmart (can you tell I have no idea what I'm doing) but the timer worked great while we were gone. We do keep the basking light on all the time it's a red light that's not supposed to bother them at night. But the timer is a life saver at least I don't have to get up and remember to turn the UV light on before my coffee!

Sounds like that timer is gold-plated.

Seriously, is it one of those power center-type ones that are specifically made for aquariums?

Yeah! It should be for what I paid for it! :wink:

It is one of those power center types, it has an internal clock and you can program it for different times on different days etc. It has a battery back up too!
For the price it should make my coffee in the morning. Oh well nothing but the best for the little guy! :lol:

what a nice idea, i never thought about the timer, daaaaa, I have my turtles at work (flower shop) (i'm allowed to keep them) so on weekend when we closed is always a dilema: light on or off?? for the week end

no more DILEMA

Jet, for what it does, perhaps you weren't too badly ripped off. I like the idea of a battery back-up.
