Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

:D Hi I just got a new turtle that is about 5 in long. Ive noticed other topics mentioning that owners scoop away poop on a daily basis. Ive had this turtle about 4 days now and i havent seen any poop since the first day I brought her home. Could it be that my filter is doing a great job? I have a 30 gallon tank with an In tank Filter from Treta which is for a tank up to 40 gallons.

if she hasnt ate in 4 days then she probly wont poop yet
or its just that ur filter is good
but you should have a filter rated for double the size of your tank

Well your filter isn't strong enough (2x-3x the size of tank is needed) so I doubt that..but they could be eating the poop before you notice it. Do you have gravel in your tank?

Mine doesn't usually do this but it is common for them to eat their own waste..

It happens. Poop can also break apart in the water and the filter will grab bits of it. Try to see if you can find out when your turtle poops. One of my turtles will poop 5-15 minutes after eating, so it makes it a bit easier sometimes :)

Well I have been feeding her. Maybe she eats it before i notice. Is this bad for her health? and can someone suggest a diet plan for one her size. Thank you.

There's a lot of great info at this link...http://www.redearslider.com/index_nutrition.html

Eating their own poop doesn't seem to hurt them any. I guess their just trying to make sure they get all the nutrition out of their meals. :P

When my RES was smaller and more into eating his poop (he doesn't really any more), it used to literally become a race as to who would get to it first, him or me, so I don't doubt your turtle could be eating it before you even notice it's there. :)

As for a diet plan, as you can see in the link, you have options as to what to feed. Don't overfeed. Variety is good.

The first time I saw Sincere go after some poop I
got so mad at him. Cuz Tommy never does that,
greedy buggers. :)
