Well it depends, what kind of light is it and how much UVB does it put out?

I'd say exactly 12 inches away from the basking area should be fine. You can put it a bit closer to at your own risk, i have mine about 8 - 9 inches away from the basking area.

Then his eyes might get irritated, swollen, etc. But I have never seen any problems like that with any UVB bulb other than the Reptisuns. So I think, just to be safe, keep it at 12 inches, but if you want, then you can move it a little closer like me, but thats if you want.

With that bulb you should be safe at around 8" but probably anywhere from 6" to 12" from the turtle's back should be fine. If it came with instructions just make sure to follow those.
