Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

My turtle is jumping out of the water when i feed him. I had to put some mesh screen on top. Is that normal? I called a vet and they said it is. What so ya'll think

I don't quite understand... I'm picturing your turtle miraculously leaping over the side of the tank as you feed him. Could you describe the situation a little more?

you mean like splashing and lunging? I don't think a turtle could leap out of the water...

When I walk up to the tank, he will swim FAST! And then while swimming fast, he will go to the middle of the tank and jump up about 1ft out of the tank. Thats why I put wiring. This only happens before feeding.

Spot can leap almost (but not quite) his whole body length out of the water when he's really motivated.

Hmmm, that's a new one on me.

But they do get very excited when they know you are going to feed them! So I guess the "reaction" itself isn't unusual.....just the jumping. I wouldn't worry about it....just enjoy the fact that your turtle associates you with food!
