General Care Discussion :: Update on Tobi girls "gravid" behavior...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Pardon my mistake :)

I think if she is showing nesting behavior, she can lay them right now. The fact that she hasn't is because she has not found the right spot or conditions. I'm sure some lay them out of desperation, but it can happen at the site or in the tank.

Once they get into that trance, you can get closer to her. It's very weird to see it, but it's also an exciting (or excruciating) time :P

Its ok Steve, I can see where you may have thought I meant that! lol

Ok...so if she can lay them NOW...lol I wonder why she hasnt?! She has had lotsa different places...different types of ground cover and soil hardness and softness...

When she is diggin, I can get in her face actually. If Im quiet and dont move much, she dont seem to mind. Also when she "just walks away" Im usually backed off and sittin close enough but far enough for her to have her space. And I want to see the "trance"..sounds cool! I saw a snake do it on Crocodile Hunter...sooo neat!

Although now...hopes she is desperate enough to lay in the water. Sounds bad...but really now. I wouldnt be so crazy if she wasnt, ya know?! lol

Camee, beyond what I mentioned above about the oxytocin, I can't help you with this because my turtle is a guy (thank goodness!). Other people on here like Steve, Marisa and Industrial Girl who have females and have been through it can give you much better guidance.

The only thing I would suggest is maybe giving her more distance between you and softening the dirt she's digging. Good luck Camee and Tobi!
