I actually did put Snappy in the tank with Tortarita today for about an hour. :D You can tell their personalities are as different as night an day. I wasn't too worried because snappy's a hatchling and very small. :) But she would go under the basking dock and just stay there then pop her nose out of the water for air every couple of minutes.  She did that for almost the entire hour!! While Tortarita, what seemed to be afraid of her would swim franticaly to the other side of the tank. After that I returned Snappy to the little turtle holder I had when I got Tortarita. But this wk I plan to buy Snappy a 20 gl tank and buy a light and filter. Then I have to decide on a basking dock or "drift wood" because I read that's what they use to bask on, sooo..... 8) But yeah she's so CUTE!!!!

You really shouldn't have introduced them...Snappers have enormous strength, even small ones.

Also, if the snapper had parasites or diseases it might just have gave them to Tortarita

YOU DID WHAT???????????dude!if that thing has been in the wild ever since it has hatched!they could have parasites!or some other disease!
and tenodera is right!it is aggressive even when it's only a little bananna!
But yeah,if the snapper has fun with his buddy RES then go ahead lol!

And I found a hilarious video!

I'm thinking that you shouldn't have introduced them because you've pretty much destroyed being able to release the baby snapper in the future. I know you want to keep the hatchling now because it's cute, but in the future when it gets bigger, should you change your mind, you don't have the option of releasing it since it has been with your turtle.

I'm not recommending putting them together either, but how does introducing the snapper to the RES for an hour mean that she can't ever release the snapper in the future? And, aren't you not supposed to release an animal that you've cared for into the wild?

Well guys I think it's too late to realease it now!he is now in love with the turtle!and he put it with his slider  And who cares about realeasing it anyway!my friend went and caught a reeves turtle from a river!but I think if you find a stray turtle you can keep it if you want!but I would that if he could get everything the snapper needs and is very careful then I think we can't keep telling him to realease it!so it's his choice too keep it!not ours!now stop with the!"if you find a turtle realease it" stuff ok?unless this guy won't take good care of it!I don't know why my bad thoughts came but yeah.......................................................

I would never recommend taking an animal out of his natural habitat unless he was in dire need of medical attention. It's cruel to take them and make them your pets just because you don't want to pay for one or think they are cool.

I think this topic is done. In many places there are laws prohibiting the capture and/or release turtles. This forum does not condone the capture of wild turtles unless their environment is threatened and the release of captive turtles is equally unacceptable.
