A few people have had that problem with the Zoo Med dock. I'm not sure why they would say he has a Vit A deficiency, although many do jump to that conclusion when there are swollen eyes involved. Unfortunately swollen eyes are a common symptom of other illnesses and inflictions.

Did they do anything else? Did they offer a course of treatment? Any instructions?

Remove the bottom suction cups from the turtle dock so that the dock will move more freely & the baby will be less-likely to get stuck. Some people have had problems with the baby RES's getting stuck & you don't want to risk drowning.

Feel free to feed the baby romaine lettuce as well as the turtle pellets like reptomin...both have vitamin A in it. A varied diet is very important for RES's. Read the feeding section of this website for a full list of foods you can feed them. It's fun to get them to try new foods!

I am reading through this site which I am finding very helpful, and I am going to leave it up for my husband to read through tonight, we have 2 babies , we recevied the 1st from his brother and sisterlaw, they bought thier kids all one and left them dirty in little plastic bowls where no one bothered with them, 2 died and I rescued Groucho because they were going to let him go in the creek , I have become very attached to him as has my husband, we spent a far amount on learning how to care for him , and buying him the proper equpiment and he is far different then the turtle we brought home 4 months ago, we bought the baby from a petstore because well because we enjoy groucho so much and Tuck has fit right in , it amazes me how some ppl like the members of this group care so much , and others buy just because they can ,,,,,

On the turtle dock, in addition to removing the suckers that are under the water, also turn it upside down so the horizontal bar is at the top instead of the bottom. This also helps make it much easier for a little turtle to escape.

Have your vet show you how to give the shots. It's one thing to "describe" how to give a shot, but you really should have someone SHOW you so you can do it safely. :)
