I have work at 8 and then go to school sometimes till 10 at night. I should probably get a timer now that I think of it. But until then... would it be okay to leave my lamp on that whole time? I can probably come home in between and turn it on/off then.. but how long can i keep it on. It's been 107 here in Los Angeles and my room gets HOT. Usually the water is around 85 but i've been able to get it to 80 when i keep the fan over the water. I'm afraid that if i leave the lamp on too long it will heat up the water even more. The temp on the basking area was 100 once! Suggestions?

Do they have a UVB light? Do they bask with the basking light off?

I'd just use the UVB light when the room temp is really warm (it won't really increase the temp since it's flourescent). I'd get two timers for when both the heat and UVB light are in use. They aren't expensive. If there's nothing wrong with your light fixtures, it won't hurt anything to keep the lights on timers.
