Well, my cousin went camping in Michigan, found a wild baby snapper, thought it was cute, and took it home.
I found out that she was going to take this little guy home and tried calling practically everyone in the family to get in contact with her to prevent her from taking it back to Chicago but I couldn't reach her. So she took it home.
Well I called her again and again and I finally got through to her and she said she could handle it blah blah blah, I gave her a ton of advice and told her if she ever needed help to call me and I could try my best.
Two days later she calls like "Oh, well I have school and work, etc, this turtle is going to be too much for me right now. You want it?" And of course I said I would take it from her.
So I went over there, and here is the scene: He is in dirty water, like not even just dirty but muddy where there is no possible way for him to see, and the water is only about half an inch high and there is a bunch of dirty gravel in his 10 gal tank and he has a rock to clamber up upon if for whatever reason he chose to, there was no light so no motivation for him to do so. He also appeared to have some sort of algae growing on his shell only visible in the water which I discovered after putting him in clean water, though it is whispy and brown and she was under the impression that his scutes were shedding, but no they are not. I got a very soft toothbrush and when I scrubbed a bit it came off easily, so it may have been algae I cannot say for sure.
He has a little bump on the bottom of his shell, almost like the remnants of the yolk sac, which may or may not explain why he is not eating.
I have given him reptomin in smaller pieces and obviously he has not touched the stuff. He has a feeder in there [It's a wee bit big considering they're Tut Tut's feeders and Tut Tut is already nearing 6".] and I am going to put one of Tut Tut's aquatic plants in there to see if he will eat it.
My main reason in making this thread was to ask what I should feed him and how to get him to eat. He is also not very active and he likes to walk along the bottom instead of swim, which is a bit odd for me being a RES kinda girl. I did research on Snappers and apparently they live in shallow water and love to hide and whatnot, and aren't as active as RES.
If you have any advice on anything I've said, please tell me. Anything really helps at this point. x.x
