General Care Discussion :: Can i put any rock into my tank?...

This is probably a really stupid question... but i'm just making sure lol. Uhm... if i find like medium sized rocks from the street or anywhere can i directly put it into my tank or do i have to wash it with some kind of stuff?

You need to wash it. You can boil them or you can use a very dilute bleach solution and then rinse the bleach solution.
Where are you getting rocks from? And you also need to make sure they're not abrasive because that can cause shell damage.

Don't know where i'm gonna get them yet... but most likely from a park. thanks for the info

I used some rocks from a park , and they work good, just like MEGCORNELL said, look for the smoothest rocks you can find, i washed them real good and leave it in wahter for few hours and then wash them again, it mades a nice set up
or get some rivere rocks from dollar store , that what i did too,

yea, always wash an soak anythin before you put it in your tank an make sure you rinse it well or soak it in clean water to ensur eyou get off all teh residue from the bleach

I got mine from a creek bed. They work well and look very natural. I rinsed them well with hot water and used a potato brush on them. I also soaked them changing the water a few times.

I also got my river rocks from the dollar store. Cheap but very natural looking. Turbo loves to play and dig in them.

thanks everyone for all the advice! if i can't find a smooth one in the park then i guess i'll get it from the dollar store... because my tank looks too plain right now...

Just remember, even if you get them from the dollar store. WASH THEM!!

You really should wash anything before putting it in your turtle's tank.
