General Care Discussion :: Turtle Not eating like Normal. What is going on?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Nov 12, 2006 12:46 am   Turtle Not eating like Normal. What is going on?

:| My red Eared Slider Mikey is about 20years old, we recently moved from California To Florida, he was in a cooler for seven days, but is now back in his tank which he has lived in for the past 7 years. I have a good filter and condition the water properly. He did somehow recieve a circular wound above his right eye, that is pretty deep. It is white on the inside on the wound. Should I give him a Sulfer Dip to prevent an infection? Need A litte Advice. Thank anyone.

I'd take him to the vet. Deep head wounds could be very serious.

Take him to the vet. If it's white in it. It's already infected.

Sulfa dip won't prevent infection. Since you said it was "pretty deep," seeing a herp vet would be best. Is it bleeding at all? Until he sees a herp vet, keep the wound clean. You also could apply a little Neosporin on it with a q-tip (don't get it in the eye).

Did he have something sharp in the cooler with him?

Wow, 20 yrs old! That's awesome!

Did you take your turtle to the vet? It sounded like he needed some medical attention.

I dont have the money right now, but as soon as I can get enough i'll take him in. I changed the water and cleaned out the tank today to make sure it wasn't something in the tank. We'll see. Someone said if it was white on the inside it was already infected but it was white right after he did it. It looks the same as it did the first day.

any way you can put pictures up... I know you'll get the same response, but at least the urgency can be addressed... But remember the sooner the better, they cant just go to the dr when they are sick or hurt they rely on you.
