General Care Discussion :: Wierd Behavior, Stress?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Sep 22, 2007 2:53 am   Wierd Behavior, Stress?

Ive been noticing this for a week now
Tito has been acting lethargic for a while during the day
He would just float in his plant wall and just stare at me
Im feeding him 6 pellets, according to size of his head and all
So i dont think hes starving or even hungry

It kind of seems like hes REALLY Bored

I had Rosy Reds in there, but the mess they make is ridiculous. I never noticed it until i did a complete water change monday. And MY GOD, when i stir up the water i couldnt see Tito because there was SOO much fish poo in the tank.
I saw none of Titos poop, but ya, hes probably just eating it

After this observation, i made the desicon to take them out.
He didnt pay any attention to them anyway

His appetite is raging.
Most of the time hes just staring into the blue, just staring at things.
You think he might be stressed.
His temps go from 78 at night, to, 82 during the day

Like right now hes swimming around a little, but it comes out of nowhere.
Sometimes hes soo lethargic and now hes a little active

Whats going on
Any ideas???

Thxs
:D

If he's not sick, perhaps it's the changing of the seasons.

Just keep an eye out for other symptoms - you know the ones to watch for (poor appetite, swollen eyes, lethagy, swimming lopsided, lots of yawning or breathing with the mouth open.)

Turtles do have their moods. It seemed like a bunch of them suddenly got frisky last spring. How they knew it was spring, living inside like they do, is a mystery to me but a number of people reported the same thing. If they speed up in the spring, I guess it would be logical for them to slow down in the fall. Sunday is the first day of fall by the way.

Individuals differ from each other. They instinctively know when it is spring, winter and all that stuff - why some act different and some dont act any different at all during these season changes? I dont know.

Either way I'd keep an eye out for any other symptoms and I'd becareful not to overload your tank with too much fish, the ammonia levels can spike with all the waste those fish produce (sounds like a lot of waste, the way you described it).

Hmmm, I have three big rosies in Spot's aquarium and the bottom doesn't get messy at all. In fact it's cleaner with the fish in there. Now that you've taken the fish out, I'd be interested in hearing whether the tank is staying clean. I'm wondering if Tito didn't have some sort of digestive tract upset that messed up the water.

Tenodera, Roca's probably a Southern Hemisphere guy at heart which is why he's active in the fall. In his mind, it's turning into spring!

I doubt its Tito's poop
Becuase ive had fish before in a separate tank and it looks like fish poo
Short skiny stringy, brown-orange, poo

I barely fed the fish, like once a month
Cuz all they did was eat off the rocks and floor, and then poop like crazy
Im guessing its because they eat soo mcuh

As for right now, its been a week since the water change, and Tito's water is super clean

Well, that's it then. It still seems odd because fish poop doesn't accumulate in my tank at all. Maybe your definition of a lot of fish poop and mine are just different. :D

This is the only pic that turned out clear, which i have right now
On the other side he has his plant wall and other plants

oo Also i did some redocorating, but the stuff is all the same
I just moved it around

And put 2 glasses in from coners of the tank and put a Red rock in each
Then surrouned the two glasses on both sided with rocks

It looks soo cute when he goes in the glass
