General Care Discussion :: Bubble stick question

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I went to the store today to buy a Stealth heater for the babies tank but since they were over priced (whole different and aggravating story) I decided to order one online. While I was there I thought I would get the babies a bubble stick to help circulate the water. I picked up a ceramic bubble stick and read the instructions which completely surprised me. It said to soak the bubble stick in hydrogen peroxide for 24 hours before use... what in the world is the purpose for this? I ended up getting a different brand that didn't mention any sort of cleaning or soaking before use (I rinsed it just in case) but it isn't ceramic.

I would think that might be a precaution to disinfect it, and get rid of any residual chemical residue? I haven't seen that before though.

I just found it odd that only the one brand said that and I wasn't sure if it was because it was made from ceramic but either way I didn't get it since I was unsure. I am not too fond of the bubble sticks I got. I want some that are heavy enough that they don't need to be suctioned and also flat so they can sit on the bottom, if something like that exists LOL.

I have one like you are talking about. I got a gift card to Petco for my birthday last week, so I had to go shop there. But they actually had this bubble stick it's about 18'' only about 3/4'' tall and it's heavy enough to lay on the bottom w/o suction cups. Here's a link for it:

The only thing I can think of, is that the ceramic stick has a special coating that comes clean when placed in hydrogen peroxide.

Thanks! I will look around for them. I don't have a petco close but the next time I am around one I might just get the babies a new bubble stick :)

I think you can order that one online, it's only like $6.00. They are a bit more in the store and Petco doesn't price match.
