General Care Discussion :: Hiccups?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi guys ;)

My YBS aka Sushi, seems to be more than happy in her new tank, basking and eating well. But this morning i noticed she's been well...having the hiccups....What she does is when underwater seems to bite the water, and for a while she was trying to clean something she had on her mouth, possibly some food was stuck. Is this a normal thing? Or is she possibly ill? She looks absolutely fine other wise? Or does she have a cold?

Thanks for your help

p.s i just cleaned out her tank...and she just pooped!

How long did the Hiccuping go on? Is she still doing it?

On the pooping, some turtles will poop right after they eat, so if you feed them in a separate container, they can do their business there and it will keep their tank cleaner. Some turtles, however (like mine), don't poop after each meal so it doesn't work for us.

Well she seems to have stopped touching her mouth, but she does open her mouth under water a little more than usual...could she just be hungry?She never hesitates to eat. I feed her well but try not to overfeed her.

Thanks

When she does it, is she just sitting there ignoring you? My turtles often open their mouths and snap at the water when they're begging.
