General Care Discussion :: What age do Turtles stop growing?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I have a semi-rescued turtle who I am trying to get used to.
I've only had her around 6 months, and from what I understand she's around 5-6 years old.
She has an outdoor aquarium, and the tank is set up to her specifications. :) (DEMANDING turtle!)
We have had a lot of spring storms recently and I've had a lot of leaf litter to clean up.

I usually give her a check over and a light, gentle clean with a toothbrush every 2-3 weeks. Today I noticed she has a different colouring on the 'Marginal' side of her shell. (on the underside mainly) It is grey in colour, and is the same width right around (around 1.5cms). It's not causing her any pain at all, and she does actually feel heavier.
Could she have had a growth spurt?
We've changed her diet recently, and I'm wondering if at the ripe old age of 6 she might be putting on weight?
I may be worrying over nothing, but I wanted to make sure.
If need be I have 3 vets on call.

What is her SCL (straight carapace length)? I'm only guessing, but 5-6 years should be full grown. Or at least close to it.
Weight is another story. Before you rescued her, was she well nourished? An improved diet my help her to gain weight if she wasn't fed correctly before. Then again, if you overfeed, she will get fat.....
As far as the shell color, can you post a pic?

I'm intriged by your "outdoor aquarium". Is that like a man made pond? If you post pics, I'd like to see a picture of it, too.

LOL by outdoor Aquarium I mean water tank. It's nothing unusual (just flowery English).
Her SCL is 25cm.
From having scoured the nutrition section it looks like I need to feed her more vegetables, so she may have put on weight too quickly. She was not feed well before moving in.

25 cm is 9.84 inches (sorry, I don't think in metric :)). Females generally grow to 9-12 inches, so it is possible, if your turtle was living in less than adequate living conditions (semi rescued?) she could grow a bit more if her living conditions and diet with you are much improved. Not much, though.

Do you know what her diet was like before? What have you been feeding her, how much and how often?

It's more about the size of their shell rather than the "age" in years that determines when they stop growing. They grow very slowly after they reach 6 inches and can continue to grow very slowly for many yrs.

If your turtle is already almost 10 inches long, then chances are she is prolly fully grown, but it depends on genetics & how she was treated before you got her.
