Last night she spent a lot of time trying to swim out of the tank ~ she just kept swimming into an upper corner. Today, I heard a whole lot of splashing & saw her trying to climb out of the tank. (Rather than climb onto the basking area, she was trying to climb up the wire that is above the water next to the basking ramp. It's hard for me to describe the tank set up, but take my word for it ~ she was doing her best to get out, not bask
She ate grapes this morning (a favorite treat) but hasn't touched her lettuce for a few days.
Anyway, I am going to be out of town from Thurs. until Mon. & am freaking out that she may have egg problems while I am gone.
For now, I put her in the bathroom in a giant rubbermaid container filled w/2" of sand. There is a heat lamp on her right now (but I have to be gone for about 6hrs this evening & will be turning the lamp off. Don't want it to get her overheated or accidentally burn the place down!)
Can anyone tell me:
1) How long can she be out of water?
2) I was thinking of filling a tuperware lid w/water & setting it in the sand, so she has something to drink ~ this is a dumb question, but will Res. drink from a shallow container?
3) I know every Res. is different, but assuming she calms down, can I expect her to lay eggs in the next 36hrs?
4) What if she falls on her back? Again ~ may be a dumb question, but will she be Ok? Can she turn herself over again? Right now she is trying to escape the container, I am worried she will fall onto her back, and I swear I have heard of some animal that will die if on it's back. Or maybe that is a bug?? Or maybe I am just crazy!
All advice is truly appreciated, everyone on this forum has helped me soooo much more than books, pet stores, etc.
Here is a picture of her *hopefull* laying spot
A picture of her in her new spot. As you can see, she is pretty upset w/me ~ poor thing!
