General Care Discussion :: Turtle age

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I've read all over that determining a RES by their size is not very accurate. Can someone give me a ballpark figure? I was given 2 RES that are about 2 inches long. I've been spending a few weeks trying to get things just perfect for the and I would love to know their approximate age as to provide them with adequate care.

Thanks!

They are under a year for sure. Most captive turtles grow to three or four inches in the first year. After that, growth slows and it may take them five years to reach full size.

If they have been cared for properly they should be under a year old.
I say should only because my turtle had not been properly cared for before I took her in and she's about 3 years old and 2.5" long.

Powerofvoodoo, a frequent causes of poor (or no) growth in turtles is internal parasites. Has your guy had his stool checked by a vet? Just a thought.
