General Care Discussion :: question on caring for albinos

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

First of all, Happy thanksgiving!!

Since albinos are lacking certain pigments and whatnot, does that make them more sensitive to UVB, heat, whatever? Would care for albinos be much different then regular turtles of the same species?

I'd really like to get a male texas or mississipi albino map but haven't found any yet....

Well. I would think so. If you do get it you should see that when (if) it basks that if it shuts its eyes or shys away from the main beam of light. Then you could lower the light's wattage or keep it at a greater distance.
If it doesnt like to bask from on a platform, you should throw in those vitamins that help with the calcium(i belive its A) and increase the water temperature to keep it active. Also I think that the shell might be more vunerable to anyhting so you should put in double the effort you put into keeping the tank, filter, water clean.
