Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

When we where at our favorite reptile shop today 2 bearded dragons came in one with some bleeding from her mouth. Well the guy (whom is a reptile expert) looked at her and said she has a very mild case of mouth rot and told the guy to soak a q-tip in Listerine and rub it inside her mouth or to use some oragel with antiseptic because it will help kill the infection. I thought this was a great thing to know. I didn't know that you could to that so I just thought that I would share another little at home thing you can do if you notice your turtle is a little down in the mouth.

I have read that mouth infections in turtles can be very serious - frequently fatal. An indication of disease is a white or pale mouth instead of healthy pink. What I've read is that if a turtle has a mouth infection you should take it to a vet ASAP.

Mouth rot is a really BAD sign. I have never seen a turtle with clean water & good conditions ever come down with mouth rot.

I hope the pet shop was able to help the bearded dragons recover. As Spotsmama said, it can be a life-threatening illness.

yes it can these peoplel cought it early so early the any meds would have been to strong, so he told them about the mouthwash. I am not saying use this instead of the vet but it can be a use until you can get in to see the vet.

These men have dedicated their lives to snakes and other reptiles and are very reliable they have ben published in books and are some top breeders. They provided educational programs for kids and have a venomous snake exibit at the shop.
