General Care Discussion :: Extra-red mouths?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

This is going to sound crazy, and could just be me... but I could SWEAR that both Lily and Herman seem to have extra red mouths yesterday and today. Herman likes being hand fed. Lily you can just see. When they open their mouths, the area around the mouth (where lips would be) and inside the mouths look very red. Not swollen or anything.

Is this possible, or have I just noticed how red they are for the first time?

:)

have you fed them anything orange or red? carrots, etc....

my girls' lips and mouth turn bright orange-red when they eat carrots. sometimes more so than others.

Carrots :) Yesterday. I used to give them the shredded carrots, but one day I ran out and gave them a baby carrot. They had the BEST time holding it, chasing it, etc while eating. So Now I do those all the time. Also, takes them longer to eat them.

THANK YOU. Of course I was already convinced they were dying of septicemia. Just how I think. Phew!!

I would just wait not not give them some carrots for a coupel days and see if the red goes away and if it does then it is probably the carrot.

Too funny! Well, I feel so much better. I should have known this: as an infant, my nephew loved carrot baby food. We never noticed his coloring until my brother sent out one of the Xmas cards with his photo on it. He was sitting under the Xmas tree and smiling real big. But his nose was SO orange, and his cheeks were too. Apparently, several concerned friends actually called my sis-in-law to ask if he was ill. hee hee!
