Back in my old house, when I had first gotten my 55g (up from a 30) I came home to see that my more adventurous of the two RES was not in the tank!
I knew she had climbed through the little opening in the screen that had a 2nd, hang on filter going.
I looked behind the stand, under the furniture and every room on the downstairs level. I knew she wasn't able to go up two flights of stairs.
And then I remembered, when I came home the inner, 2nd door to the outside door was left open. Could she have gone down 2 flights of stairs into the basement?!
I looked around the walls of the basement, where an animal is most likely going to travel, around boxes, junk tools, until I looked down behind the washer/dryers to see a turtle covered in sediment and dirty-lint-hair!
She probably still tells her tankmate that story of her big adventure.
She didn't have a scratch or scrape, but I (she, I guess) was very lucky.
Just watch her activity in the water, ie, limb movement, cuts or bruises. And fix that problem! Now she knows where to escape she continuously have at it!
