General Care Discussion :: Food stuck in the folds of the neck?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has ever has a turtle who has had food stuck in the folds of their neck. I think this is what has happened to mine. I have gently tried to remove it with a q-tip but no luck. I'm afraid of hurting her. She is no bigger than 1.5 inches.

Could this be a tumor? It isn't soft but a hard lump and I can see a yellowish colour of the "food"?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Can you try posting a picture? Generally babies don't have enough skin folds to hide any food in, so we better see a picture to be sure.

Well, I was finally successful in removing the food from Mattie's neck fold. Phew! It was a very small piece of a pea. I just hope now she won't get an infection from where is use to be.

She is eating and swimming fine. Let's hope all continues well.

Is the skin broken or raw there? If not, and you keep the water clean, there shouldn't be a problem.

Do you feed peas to your turtles? There a quite a few other foods that would be healthier for them.
