Yeah, that's what's kind of puzzling. I never noticed any shell defects of any kind. In fact, I always thought she looked very healthy and seemed very active up until her last couple of days.

I guess we'll never really no for sure. I just want to make sure I do things right should we get a new one.

So sorry to hear of your loss. What was her setup like? How big of a tank and was it kept warm? You sound like a very responsible turtle owner. Should you decide you want another turtle I have some I need to find homes for but will only give to someone who knows and understands their care which is looks like you do. I have 7 of them and too much to care for. I am near Sacramento so not too far from you. I agree this is a wonderful site - great information.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sometimes we do the best that we can, but it isn't always enough. Like mentioned before, you seem like a responsible owner, and you shouldn't beat yourself up about it. If you should get a new turtle, you will be better prepeared, and now you know of this site! =) Good luck to you!

She did look good. Beautiful in fact. It's just like with people, sometimes bad luck strikes and something rare and unforeseeable happens. I do hope you wind up with another turtle because there are lots of turtles out there that need good homes and you could provide one.

I apologize for having missed your comments on her diet. She looks quite healthy in the pic. She could have had something congenital that wouldn't have been evident until it was too late.
