Have you read up on the info on this site? There's a gold mine of good info on how to setup the tanks, what to feed them and how they behave. If you haven't yet, why don't you read through it then come back and ask any specific questions you have. Creating a good healthy environment for turtles isn't easy - there's quite a bit you need to know to keep them from getting sick - but once you've got the setup right, then they are easy to take care of, and very interesting pets, too.
What is the older one digging in? Depending on the circumstances, digging can be normal turtle behaviour.
Here's a serious warning though. It's dangerous to put a small turtle in with a big one. The big one can do serious damage by biting the smaller one very fast. If there's much difference in the sizes, you should separate them at least until the sizes are more equal.
