Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Apr 15, 2008 7:53 am   Im worried

My baby turtle loves carrot, but yesterday she didn't eat any of the carrot I gave her. She didn't bask as much as she usually does either, I only saw her basking once yesterday. Im going to be keeping an eye on her today, I realy hope shes not sick. She ate her reptomin with no problems. Can they get bored of certain foods and stop eating it?

They certainly do get bored of certain foods or hold out for tasty treats. They also have their own moods, so I think giving her another day is a good idea.

Thanks, I think I got worried a bit too soon. I watched her all day and she ate her carrot from yesterday and the reptomin I gave her this morning.

Besides the reptomin (which is a good brand by the way), do you feed her other veggies besides carrot? It's very good to provide a variety of different healthy foods to make sure she gets a balanced diet. Some good foods are red and green leaf lettuce, turnip greens, blueberries, steamed sweet potato, fresh basil, apple peel, bell pepper, and water plants like anacharis. These are just examples. There are other good foods listed iin the nuitrition section on this site and on the sticky at the top of the Nuitrition forum.

I give her lettuce too but she hasn't touched it yet. Tried romaine now trying red lettuce.

Hello all,

initially, i didn't realize that sweet potato needs to be steam before feeding my red slider, so I gave it without cooking it. After looking through some of the posts here, I realize sweet potato needs to be steam before feeding it to my red slider. And so I did.

What amuse me was, previously, my red slider ate all the sweet potato strips that wasn't cooked. But it didn't ate any steamed sweet potato that I gave on a later date.

Is there any bad effects for eating sweet potato that isn't cooked?

I can't imagine that they are bad raw, they aren't like regular potatoes, so I think it's okay.
