Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

hey all,

last time i posted i commented that the YBS weren't eating, well that certainly changed. now that they know i'm where food comes from, they beg and swim and are always mooching, haha.

one of my turtles has shown obvious growth in the month or so since i got them. in contrast, it looks like the other hasn't grown at all.

is this normal, or could the growing turtle be eating all the food? i've tried removing the smaller one to feed in a separate container, but it gets frightened very easily and won't eat in the container.

or is this normal for rapid changes in growth at different times?

sounds like one turtle is getting all the food. I would leave the small one in the tank then feed it. and if the big one is not as shy you could feed him out side in another container.

There are a few possibilities.
The most probable one is that the larger one is dominating and is getting the larger share of the food. Try feeding the bolder one in a separate container or at least taking him out of the tank while the shy one eats. If you don't see any improvement or growth I'd have the little one checked for internal parasites.
It could also be genetics, but the food hogging is the likely cause.
