Ok so I just cleaned my turtle's tank and I walk by the tank and he's out in the basking area when all the lights are off. I was wondering if this is normal and why he is doing this? I've never noticed this before.

Mine does that too, I think that after I turn off the lights its still warm in that area so she sits up there for quite awhile after lights out, so it seems pretty normal

My turtle stays on the basking platform after the light has gone out, too. When the platform cools off, then he goes back into the water. I understand some turtles will occasionally sleep all night on their platforms, although this is quite unusual.

If the room temperature is relatively warm (since spring is here, room temps around 80), the turtle won't have any need to leave the basking area if the water isn't much warmer. As the room temps drop, the turtle will go back into the water.

All three of my turtles have been spending the night up on their docks for the last few months. No idea why. Napoleon's done it for periods in the past, and Hercules has been doing it consistently for about 6 months, but Napoleon and Moxie both started doing it at the same time a month or so ago and have kept it up. The only thing I could think of was that maybe it's just warm enough now that they don't get cold when the lights go off.

My adult sleeps on her platform all night. The babies sleep in the water in their tank, I guess its just personal preference.
