Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I know it's going to be hard to let her go but that's the right thing to do. She's a big girl - that means she knows how to take care of herself in the wild really well. The pond is where she's used to being - it's home to her. She was probably looking for a place to lay her eggs and wandered too far.

You did a good job for her by checking everything out. Best now to let her go back to where she came from.

trust me and her they are good climbers. give them a rough surface and they can do almost anything. my baby red eared slider fell out of my 16th floor window and its not a happy site. it happened a few weeks ago which still makes me feel bad.
im a true slacker but when it comes to family, my slacking mood becomes a black force 24/7

pets: 2 red eared sliders

Do her a favor and let her go.

Take her to that pond and let her go. It's good that your neighbor rescued her from the road, and now it's time for you to rescue her back to her environment. She probably has friends there (maybe even some eggs that she already laid) and she needs to get those eggs out asap before one breaks. If you are overly concerned, go to the pond and help create a few nesting spots (for her and the other turtles) with some soil mix and you can go back every couple days and feed the turtles some lettuce. But she'll be happiest free. Maybe your male made it over there!

Okay I know I have to let her go. It will be hard but I know it's for the best. I was half expecting you guys would tell me I am horrible for thinking of letting her go and that I should take care of her. Three RES is hard enough to care for. Well one good thing came of her short time with us. My girls got a bigger pond. I probally will update the pond again this summer. I am not happy with the shape. I am too picky.
