General Care Discussion :: Another Turtle?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So i saved my turtle squirt from a girl in my sorority at my old college - - I went back up yesterday for alumni weekend and another girl and her roomate have two hatchlings in an over sized chip bowl with not even an inch of water. I told them all about proper care and that they need to get them a tank etc. etc. and now they don't want them.

I just bought squirt (my turtle) a 40gal breeder tank and he is only about 2.5 maybe 3 inches and currently looking at a 90gal on craigs list for an apartment that i will be moving into in july.

But to get to the point they found someone to take one of them that will do it correctly but they can not find a home for the second. I want to take one of them but don't know if its a good idea. I read alot about aggression between turtles etc. and i know the risk of having to put them in separate tanks. Squirt is a boy (i looked at the tail and hes not 4inches yet but the nails are starting to get a bit longer in the front too) - - im pretty sure one hatchling is a male and the other is a female. If i do take one and try to put them in the same tank i want to take the male because to be honest i dont want to deal with eggs and the chance of fertility - -

are turtles like other animals though with more chance of aggression if there are two males?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It's irrelevant if they are male or female, you will risk the chance of aggression eventually. Do you know of anyone personally that you can train on what they need to take care of a turtle, like your parents or a sibling? You can try to put them together, but your turtle will be larger and more territorial and may injury the little one right off the bat.
