Hello, I have a question about my turtles shell. I found him in my garage about 2 weeks ago. When I get him out of the tank and let his shell dry it seems to have a funny white, flakey look to it. I cant get my pics to load and my sons not home to do it for me.
In the introduction section there is a pic from 'Carl' whose turtle has the same kind of look. Its "Hello, Newbie in CA with a picture". My turtles shell is a little more flakey. Is this normal??
I think I'm going to worry about everything till I know more about turtles! You quys will be like 'Here is more crazy questions from kim.'
I just want my little guy to be healthy, and he wont talk to me yet
I dont think he basks enough, or maybe he had problems from his old home. I just want to catch it before it get bad- if there is a problem.
I do feed him Reptomin pellets with calcium. And dandilion greens most of the time.
Also he's about 5in and I have him in a 55gal. tank, Uv light, basking area. - think thats all the info.
Thanks so much for the help!

I'm not sure what you mean by flaky. The pic you described (http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15508) looks like it had some damage or mineral deposits (like it was in bad water before). I'm not sure what it is, but if you can get someone to post your pictures, someone can definitely help.

Sounds like you're doing a good job. Most turts won't bask until they get comfortable in their new surroundings. As far as the flaking shell goes, I wouldn't worry about it till he gets adjusted to the new setup.
