General Care Discussion :: basking too much?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Good morning!

We recently moved to a completely new area (from AZ to VA - BIG change in atmosphere). Norma was a trooper for the trip, though I felt like we were torturing her.

Well, now she spends a LOT more time on her rock. Even when her lights aren't on. In AZ she mostly slept/stayed in the water, but now she's on her rock about 80-90% of the time. Is it the humidity? She's not any less active. Her eyes/shell look good. We even take her out in the grass on a nice day and she loves it.

Should we be concerned?

Is she showing any other unusual behaviors? I would think that there might be something different in the water that she needs to acclimate to, it could also be the temperature of the water, or that she's shedding and needs the extra dry time to help her slough off skin. If she is showing a loss of appetite, or seems unable to submerge when she is in the water, then I would be concerned, but otherwise she is probably fine.

No other unusual behavior. We've always had a hard time getting her to eat greens, but her appetite itself doesn't seem bothered. Her water temp is the same as it was in AZ, and it doesn't look like she's shedding.

Any other ideas, or do you think she's okay?

I wouldn't be too concerned, but I would just keep an eye on her for any odd behavior.
