Hi Vencentapa,

Putting this together with your earlier post, what I think is this. Your turtle is very young and small (about an inch long or less?) and you haven't had him but for a few days. He's acting lethargic (sleepy or tired) and doesn't seem interested iin food. His eyes don't look swollen but he seems to be rubbing them from time to time. He doesn't breath with his mouth open but seems to be snapping at the air (or yawning?) frequently.

Is that about right?

A couple of things could be going on. Since your turtle is very young and you haven't had him long, he's probably very shy. It's typical for little turtles not to want you to watch them when they eat, and when they are brand new they are often so nervous they don't eat at all for a week or so. This would be considered normal unless it lasts too long.

The other things are worrisome. Little turtles are usually very lively. They are also rather delicate and sometimes they aren't kept in clean conditions before they are sold, so it's not uncommon for a person to bring a new turtle home only to find that it's sick. If it were me, I'd make an appointment for him to see a herp vet because he might be ill. If he starts acting more normal before you see the vet (normal being acting lively and skittish, swimming energetically, flying off the basking platform when you get close), then you can cancel the appointment. If he's ill, then he needs to be seen by a vet ASAP, as the longer the illness goes on the harder it is to treat.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

On who responds to your posts, usually if a question gets one response, then other people don't also respond unless they feel they can add something. That's what I do. If I think the question is already covered, I go on and don't add anything. I think that's what other people are doing to your posts - I've just been getting to you first. :D
