General Care Discussion :: Sylar got his foot stuck!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Just now I was cleaning Sy's veg clips off and putting them back in his tank. Sylar always has to come over and investigate what I am doing in his home. Well, I guess the clip opened alittle bit when I pushed the suction cup onto the glass. Without me noticing Sy came along and inserted his toes directly into the clip. I didn't know anything was wrong until I took my hand out of the tank and he was still flailing oddly around the clip. I immediately opened it back up and scooped the little guy up. He pulled his foot all the way to his body, gave me the evilest "WHAT DID YOU DO?!?" look, and tried to bite me! I was so scarred that I broke his little foot! But after about a minute, he brought his foot back out, and even put pressure on my hand with it. He is swimming around normally now. I checked him over and he didn't even break a nail. BUT, BOY DID HE SCARE ME!!! We are friends again now. I gave him a pellet, and he took it right from my hand! :D

That's good it didn't hurt him! Those clips are pretty strong! Well at least the one I have is.

I pretty routinely drop lettuce or carrot slices on Mikey. He always gives me this look, like, watch where you're dropping things!

I get that look if I am messing with any part of the tank, especially with this plant that he loves to pull out of his clip.

Maybe you should keep it above the water line. I couldn't get mine to stick on a stock tank, so I had it clipped to an airline tube.

I put mine above the water line as well. I didn't want him biting repetitively at the clip trying to get the last bit of lettuce out so I just moved it above the waterline about 1/2-3/4". It stopped that.

Thats kind of scarry. I had this floating log in my tank and one of my turtles would get stuck between it and the tank glass. I would look over and see him stuck and flailing around trying to get out. I would go over and help him out, then he would do it all over again. Concerned he would drown from getting himself stuck, I took it out. Not the same as the clip thing, but it shows you care about Sylar and I bet he knows it too.
