General Care Discussion :: Basking Dilemma

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Jun 17, 2008 6:41 pm   Basking Dilemma

I recently finished building a basking area for Boog.
The problem is that when the basking light is close, the temperature is 92F, but it irritates her eyes, so i moved it farther away, but when i do that temp is 82F.
I have one of those red basking bulbs, should i get a new one?
I think her eyes are a little puffy too =(.

Puffy eyes have to do with UVB lighting being too close not the heat bulb. How close is your UVB bulb to the turtle? What % is the UVB bulb?

Try moving the UVB light a little bit farther away from the turtle, but not too much, I'd say 8-10 inches maximum.

You can get Zoomed Repti-turtle eye drops for him, but I would just wait and see if moving the UVB light farther away will help.
