General Care Discussion :: Well,

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sat Jun 21, 2008 10:06 pm   Well,

Remy, my RES turtle in which I've had for only a few weeks, was found dead today.

i was at my mothers house for the past few days, and for what ever reason, probably incorrect care for almost all his life from the previous owners, has cost him his life...
im thinking, due to the fact that not only he seemed to be doing better, and my dad says he ate 5 pellets yesterday, he may have drowned. the water was low, low enough so his "basking spot" that i built, couldnt float a bit. i made it so it floats a bit above the water so he can get under there and then get out. he spends most of his time down there but he has been coming out and swimming around more. the fact that i found him dead under there and that the water was low, meaning it touched the bottom, it may have trapped him there and caused him to drown..
of course if i was there it wouldnt have happened, but i was at my mothers, like always.
i am very sad, but the only upside is that, frankly, i dont know where i would put such a large tank, and i get all my money from allowance. i may not have been able to afford expensive tanks, filters, etc. Now i can put my money back towards the cornsnakes i plan to get. that is what i was going to do at first, but since i got my turtle, i couldnt.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

Good luck with the cornsnakes, they're great!

How sad! Your theory as to what went wrong is probably correct. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss ... It's always a tragedy when we lose a pet.
