General Care Discussion :: RES eating?

I've never owned a RES, or any other turtle before and don't have a lot of knowledge about them. I just bought one yesterday, female and about 4 and 3/4 inches long.

First, about how old is she?

Second, when I put the pellets in the tank, it seems like she just chews them up and doesn't swallow them. A lot of debris is just floating out of her mouth. It seems like, if I were eating that way, I wouldn't get anything in my stomach.

Your turtle will eat when she gets hungry. If you have been feeding her every day I would suggest that you not feed for a couple of days. Try and offer the pellets by hand until she takes one. You will have to be patient. When you do get her to eat only feed every other day. Good Luck!!

I would roughly guess that your turtle is 18 months, but there are so many factors that affect size and age that it is strictly a wild guess.

As for the pellets, what kind are you using? Try to stick to reputable brands like Reptomin.
