General Care Discussion :: Hi, I'm just wondering..

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Jun 29, 2008 6:27 pm   Hi, I'm just wondering..

Hi, I have a baby red ear slider..almost a year old since I bought it.
I also bought a Pleco and I'm starting to feed it algae sinking pellets and cucumber.

But..for some reason..my pleco won't eat anything and my red ear slider ends up eating everything.

Is it ok if my turtle eats the algae sinking pellets?

Get some cover for pleco. They can be very skittish and shy around people.

I've read that it is best to feed plecos at night. I havent done it - mine is growing so I have assumed he's eating. But that might help. Your turt may not be as active then??

I agree with having cover for the pleco. Any cave like thing will work either from the fish decor isle at your local pet shop or even a LARGE PVC joint/elbow works.

also, feed at night. Your turt will most likely be sleeping and the pleco will have a chance to roam and feed. A good treat I noticed to get plecos out an about it seaweed clipped low in the tank. The same kind for sushi. I think Petco and Petsmart sell it. The turtle may or may not like it, but it's worth putting in there.
