General Care Discussion :: i need help

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Jul 08, 2008 5:20 pm   i need help

i have 2 RES (females). each are about 6 inches now.

i got them about a year ago, they live in a 55 gallon and i know it's way too small for them both. when i got them i had no idea what i was getting myself into. lately i've noticed them getting more and more restless and aggressive. i've also noticed one of them is missing a few naiils..

i know probaby my only option is to get them separated ASAP.
but i can't afford anything bigger than a 55 and i k now that's too small for one of them...

i really really need some advice/help

you might have to put one in a big rubbermade tub till you can get something.

Yeah, Rubbermaid tub, or put it up for adoption, or give her to a local turtle rescue type thing if they will take her. They are already so overrun though, You'd be lucky if they can take her.

Is there a family member or friend who would be willing to adopt one from you? You can assist in the setup so it's all perfect and then they would have a companion for themselves! The other option is to find a humane society to take one or both of them ...

Obviously the only other option is to get a larger tank or pond. Have you been checking Craigslist? I know it's hard to say that you cannot afford anything more, but is there anyone you can borrow some money from or a credit card to buy a bigger tank? You can put one in a large rubbermaid container but that is at best a temporary solution.

If you need another container, you could get a stock tank. They're more expensive than a Rubbermaid storage container, but are made to hold water and withstand considerable abuse. Much cheaper than a regular tank, too.
