I gave up the idea of making one - too many trips to too many stores. Just broke down and bought one. Walmart too!!

We have a spray head on the faucet though. Our faucet has a large spray fixture that can pull out. Anyone have a faucet like this. I cant get the python to attach to this one. The adapter with the package would not screw into the spray head on the faucet. Looked like it should fit, but just didnt want to connect.

Any suggestions for a fix. The 25' tubing will make it to the bathroom (barely) so it works. But I would rather for convenience attach it in the kitchen. (I am a clean freak when it come to the turt, so I do wash obsessively in the kitchen when I use the sink).

I also just bought a Python and I LOVE it. It's SO much easier that using a regualr siphon and buckets, I can't believe I never had one before!

Zoologist - you're welcome. Tell me how it goes with the DIY. I might have to rig up something for our faucet - or at least buy some tubing and add length to the python I bought.

this sounds way easier than using a regular syphon to take out the dirty water, dump it outside, then use a huge boiling pot to fill up and take 7 trips to and from the sink with water. hahahaah

We made our own python type thing. The only thing we didn't manage to do was get it so that the faucet sucks the water out for us, it still drains like a normal syphon would, but the tubing is long enough to reach the bathroom so we don't have to make trips with buckets. Then we attach it to the laundry room sink to fill and huzzah!

A couple of tips:

I don't know how much they run at walmart, but petsmart price matches petsmart.com, and you can get the 25 foot kit for 25 dollars. Just print out the product page and take it with you when you go to the store.

Also, I found out that the python is a standard hose fitting, so if you're like me and have only male faucets, you can buy a hose adapter at the hardware store to make it work.

Yeah, the closest water faucet to my tank has one of those covers to make it nice looking and everything. I tried to see if I could take it off to see what kind of thread it has, but I thought I was going to have to break it off so I stopped just in case it wasn't supposed to come off. My dad would get mad!

im guessing that if you had sand in your tank and using this it wouldnt be great for you?

right now I'm using a high-powered sum pump, we had laying around, and it pumps so fast I have to plug it in just for a second so it won't spray water everywhere. So I know the python won't be to strong. I just didi a 50% water change and no sand was sucked by the sump pump that I know of.

Any siphon will work with sand, Though you have to keep the tip of the hose a couple inches away from the sand to avoid sucking it up.
