The width and length of the container you have are OK, but a height of about 16-20" would be much better. If you can also get a longer or wider tank that would be OK too.

Have a look here for calculating the volume of water based on the dimensions;

As far as a basking area, cork bark would be great and not too expensive. I know several people here have used plumbing pipe to build cheap effective platforms to put the bark or other basking material on.

D'oh!

:)

:lol: We're on top of things today. I didn't realize I added the word 'stock' when I wrote '55 gallon stock tank,' I thought I wrote 55 gallon tank. :lol:

Maybe I need to not post as much and I'll start paying attention to what I type :roll:

Here's a few of the sites i check when shopping for equipment:
www.drsfostersmith.com They have reasonable prices (but not always the lowest) and a very easy to navigate site, as well as great customer service. The selection is wonderful too.

www.bigals.com This site has tons of aquarium accessories at great prices.

www.reptileuv.com This place has the best UV lighting around, supposedly. I just ordered a new MVB from them and they shipped it out right away.

If you're planning on making any big purchases from a petsmart or petco, check the prices for the items at their online store first and print out the page. Things are usually significantly more expensive at the store, but if you bring in a printout from the website they will match the price.
