General Care Discussion :: worms??

hi hi peeps, i have 4 babies in a 23 gall, tank (i know .. its too small) their a little bigger tho, thing is, i was cleaning my wisper 30 power filter and in the bio bag were these verry small red worms, i cleaned the entire tank right after tho, but any ideas on what could cause that ? please help lol .. any advice would be verry helpfull ... thank you soo much .. kemo . I've never heard of red worms in a tank... by any chance have you fed the turtles blood worms?

well ... currently the only thing they have been eating is pellets ... thats it ... standard fish pellets .. i bought some O.S.I. aquatic turtle pellets, but its either they dont like it much or its to big for them to eat lol ...

the worms wernt in the tank, they were in the filter bag, but the bag was a mess ... i think i waited to long to clean it ... i actuly waited till it clogged befor i took it apart. i think that was a bit too long...

On little red thread-like worms, there were some like that in Spot's tank once. Quite a lot of them actually. They got in the filter too. I think they were fly larvae. Spot had been living outside in a pond and I believe some eggs came in on him when I brought him inside for the winter. The flies weren't maturing inside (ie, I didn't have a plague of flies in the house) and after about 6 weeks all the worms were gone (died or were eaten by Spot). No more flies were laying eggs, so the worms weren't being replaced as they disappeared.

I haven't had a problem since. From my reading, I believe the worms were what the blood worm cubes you sometimes feed turtles were made of, so they were actually like a treat for him.

Be sure and clean your filter on a regular basis. Especially with a tank that's undersized for the turtles, the water will foul pretty quickly. Remember, your turts go to the bathroom in that tank, so do them a big favor and keep it clean!
