Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Cuttlebone is a calcium supplement.

I've had good results using a reptile calcium power found in any pet store. I wet their pellets, dip them in powder, let them dry, then feed them to the turt.

What temp is your water?

Also, when I've rehabbed little RES with shell rot, I actually fed them in a small tupperware with some calcium powder in the water with them, hoping they'd drink some too.

I'm finicky and it may sound a little excessive, but I've rescued some hatchlings who were knocking on death's door and brought them back. They grew big, green, and fast.

I brought them outside for 30 minutes at a time, twice a day, out if the water. The trick is, you want the shell to be exposed to straight sunlight to dry out as if they were really basking in the wild.

Hopefully you live in a warm climate, as I wouldn't recommend this otherwise.

Oh by the way, I wouldn't recommend overdosing them on calcium forever. Just until the shell rot is gone.

In my opinion, the sun is the absolute most important thing.

well we dont deffinatly know if the shell is rotting but thx for telling me what cuttlebone is and today i had both my turtles in the sun for 2 hours total. The water temp is 79-80F. I live in new jersey right now but i my be moving to South Carolina. Right now i do feed my turtles in a little container to keep the main tank clean. so i will try to get cuttlebone. Ands i also bought the turtles with possibly the shell rot but maybe it isnt shell rot. Thx for the info!

Your welcome :)

Even if it isn't shell rot, the sun and calcium will still make them happy :)

today I put some feeder fish on there tank but they don't seem AT all interested in them. I also got them a cuttle bone chunk that you put I the water and it floats. And I also put some letus in there and they seem to LOVE it! So I will give that to them more often and I will also find more healthy foods that they like tomarrow.

If they like lettuce (what kind?), also try dandelion greens---very good in terms of calcium content.
